I am really excited for tonight. Tonight is the opening of the show and I always get excited for the openings. I love listening in on people as they talk about the art. I love eavesdropping on conversations to get a REAL critique of my work. Granted, the pieces I have in the show are old and I have been critiqued on them many times. I don't feel uncomfortable or nervous about the works. I just want them to sell. I have no attachments anymore. I don't feel like a momma wanting to hold onto my new work longer, I want them out of my house. I want them to live a life of their own. They are teenagers in my place and I want them out.
I am also excited cause it is my first show in Jersey City that is not in such a hard to get to place. For example, when i have my show in the church, you have to A) go to a church B) go when the church is open and C) go there on a mission instead of a random drop by. The other show with the guitars were shown at a music thing, so people didn't really get to interact with the artists and conversations weren't had. The artists really weren't even there. Most of them dropped off the work and then it gets displayed in a window. This show I will get to mingle with the other artists, which i did last night when i swung by to pick up the postcards. The curator is also very interested in having the artists meet and introducing each other. She is more active in creating a conversation. People who are going for drinks will get to see the work and you never know who they may be or what they do. And my pieces are placed up front in the bar, so they get seen right away. And, what seems like for once, they are placed next to other work that I like as well.
So all in all, I am very excited. I will give a full report tomorrow how the show went.
