Okay, so on Sunday, i decided to go grocery shopping. Let me rephrase that........... I NEEDED to go grocery shopping. Badly. I decided to go to one of my favorite stores, Fairway which is located in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Red Hook is an amazing little part of Brooklyn that is not accessible to the rest of New York City so easily due to the fact that there are no subways. So it still remains a little community that was an old sailor hang out. It has these awesome old sailor bars and sailor stuff. I love it. You smell the sea air ........ the salty sea air.
Well, they are slowly destroying Red Hook with a possible Ikea opening up there and even my favorite grocery store. So, yes, i am destroying Red Hook. In that little way........ i am sorry.
But there is this AMAZING place there..... the soccer fields. It is a place where the local immigrants would come to play soccer and set up food stands to eat. Well, these stands used to be for the local families and sold amazing latino foods, mostly mexican, and cerveza. Unfortunately due to Guiliani's evil 1990's reign in NYC, they had to stop selling beer. They still do sell food though. Really really yummy food. I found this place because my brother had introduced me to Anthony Bourdain. We have read all his books and have fallen in love with him. Hell, my friend Jess calls him her old man crush. I would have to agree. I want to live his life. Traveling all over the world and eating really good food. Well, i don't get the travel channel, but he had a show about NYC and went all over eating amazing food. This was one of the places featured. And yes, it was good. really good. I had ceviche. Jess had a tamale and Jeff papusa (or something like that). I loved my ceviche. Jess' tamale was okay with a mysterious meat inside and Jeff's papusa was big and filling. The corn with the mayo and cheese and cayenne pepper drizzled with lime.......... (me wipes the drool from the corner of my mouth) So amazing. I now see a tradition. Go eat before grocery shopping. Next time around it is the tacos. They were huge. mmmmmm, man oh man do i love Mexican food!
