Wanted: Studio Space

okay, so after looking at other people's spaces and having studio space envy, i am now on the search. I asked my friend if she wanted in cause i know she's been itching to paint and be creative. Since we both literally kick each other's ass in TKD, i figure we can do the same with art. Inspire each other and motivate. And of course guilt. The "I was at the Studio last night and you weren't" guilt. So she was down with the idea, and started to look. Now everyone is listing for places in like the Bronx, Harlem or the ever expensive Williamsburg or Dumbo Brooklyn. Nothing near us. There used to be an amazing place that i did have a studio near me, and the rent was a whopping $200. So perfect. But unfortunately, 111 First St. is no more and is a vacant lot ready to be made into luxury lofts in the "Arts" district. Yeah right. How can it be the arts district if you kicked all the artists out.

That is the problem. Areas are shitty, artists move in to work on their stuff and get the place somewhat cool. Yuppies and rich people see the area and want it, so they move in and kick the artists out. Area gets filled with Gaps and Baby Gaps and Starbucks and that ends the coolness of the area. And of course the cycle repeats itself. Where is an artist supposed to go to create art if they can't afford to live there?

Totally why I am not an artist. Too hard find places to live and work. I sold out and lived a soulless existence writing corporate crap before my new career as a mom.
