So this weekend is the infamous WFMU record fair. This will be my 8th year, I think, volunteering. I am working on Saturday morning at the LP table and then shopping afterwards. Thank god they have a beer station there. I know I will need a break. That room is overflowing with music. It's nutty. Seriously, halfway through my eyeballs are hurting. And then you have the issues of seeing the album you want, but then you want to hold out to see if you can get it elsewhere cheaper. Then of course, you forget where you first found it.
In years past, I have tried going in with specific missions. One year i was looking for 1950's latin mambo/salsa/cha cha records. Now, mind you, I had no experience of who I should be looking for. I just went by the cover art. (Yes, this is how I buy wine too, but not beer... I know how to find me a tasty pint). One year i just hit the dollar bins. Another I had specific albums I was looking for. This year i am stumped. Now that I have an amazing record library at my disposal, I have gone blank. I have no clue what I want. Not one idea. I haven't bought any music in months. I have downloaded so much stuff from the station, I can barely listen to all of the new stuff.
Also, with the my Underwater Theme Park podcasts, I have had to find lots of new music to fit the themes. I have had to find new music for that show and the one on Shanty Raidio. On top of that, I have my journals I keep to write down songs that fit specific themes, for when i get to do a fill in late at night (2am-6am shift... kill me). I have yet to do one, but I need to be prepared. I am getting ready to do a new Halloween theme podcast as well. Hopefully tonight, if they haven't fully stripped away all the equipment I need at the station.
So I welcome suggestions for music to look for. Help me please! Help me find new fun and exciting music.
