A Sigh of Relief

okay... live DJ set.... check. done. no more worrying about it. I did it successfully. i didn't fuck up, didn't swear or cue up things live on the air. I made smooth transitions, kept volume levels checked and only bumbled through words, but come on, looking at my set list, you'd understand! I mean if you really think about it, i think i was more nervous about pronouncing the names than actually talking. But alas, i did it. i can now check it off of the many things i wanted to do and i did it well.

Even for playing a bunch of music i didn't know, i think i did a good job, if i say so myself.... I went in on Monday and made sure to familiarize myself with the bands and music. I took notes, being the geek that i am, and wrote down tracks that I would want to play. I was felt like i had enough music to play and knew WHAT i was going to play. The next day, when actually working there, i talked to Brian (the music director) about the pronunciation of the names. He saw that i had notes and was impressed. He said that he was pleased to see that i took time out to research the bands. i think it made him feel better about me doing the job as well. made him see that i DO want to do this. Oh, and Brian has been with WFMU forever, so he has a lot of pull on who gets on the air and who doesn't. So impressing him, which wasn't even something i was trying to do, helped.

So who knows what this will do or where it will bring me, but i did it. Granted it will be hard for my first ever show, but even still, I am happy i got one under my belt and knowledge that I can do it.

how very cool. I've always thought I would love to do a radio show, but where to start?

So, is this like a new job for you? Or just checking it out?
