Stole the show!

I came, I saw, I conquered. Yep, that is me. Well for one night at least. It's just a little thing that makes me know that my ideas and thought process is headed in the right direction. I know what i am making is right and the public reaction is exactly what i hoped for.

As I was setting up the ice, people didn't really notice. Until we started to drop the bullets in the holes. One guys asks- Is that subway tokens? Uhhh, yeah, if bullets are subways tokens.... Once the ice was up and glittering and we stepped away, I felt good. I just needed to go home, change and be ready to take my critiques.

At first it was quiet. People walking around. Whenever i would see someone come up the the piece, i would approach them and say if they had any questions to let me know. Let me say, there were a lot of questions. The most popular question was- "How did you shoot the bullets in the ice?" Which of course made me giggle a whole lot. Duh, do you see the caliber of these bullets? The ice wouldn't even EXIST after ONE bullet. But the questions were fun. It was fun to see how people think and how what they thought the sculpture meant. One thought it was saying stop violence. But amazingly most figured it out. They saw the movement of the bullets in the ice. They were fascinated by how I came up with the idea. Of course they wanted to know how I did it and where. A lot thought it wasn't ice, until i made them touch it.

By the end, I had everyone come up to me saying that mine was their favorite piece in the whole show. Which is unfortunate, considering it was only up for one night. I even had the only other sculptor in the show come up to me and rave about my piece. He said that it was his favorite piece there, besides his own. Then he came over again at the end of the night and said- no.... it's the best piece, even better than mine. HA!

So needless to say, I am happy that I got this great feedback. Makes me even more interested in making more work. A little kick in the butt. This coming weekend I am going down to Philadelphia to check out the Frida Khalo Show. It's the last day it's up and I really enjoy her work. So lots of art inspiration for me ahead. Now just to get off my ass and do it.
