Okay so i found out today that i am skipping my last Tae Kwon Do test to get the final black stripe on my red belt, in order to go ahead to get my official black belt. i fell over. I was told that and literally went- Holy shit and dropped. I have until the first weekend of March to get ready. Uhhh...... help! i have to be ready to take a 10 HOUR test in how long?! 3 weeks?! Do you realize that I will be living in a gym? All my free time will be doing some sort of physical activity. Push ups, sit ups, jumping jacks, running, kicking, punching, dying.
Okay, now don't get me wrong. My master wouldn't recommend this if he didn't think i couldn't do it. He's not stupid and knows that the black belts in his school are very well earned black belts. I have been taking TKD for about 3 and a half years. I go all the time. If i don't go to class, then you know i am either on vacation or i am sick. The funny thing is it is soooo not what i ever thought i would do. I never thought i would take a martial art. When i used to live up in New York State, I was going to a gym and when i came down here, i wanted to continue to work out. I kept walking by the school and figured why not give it a shot. I took one class and that was it. It killed me. I knew if this class could kill me, and i was THAT out of shape, then this was for me. I fell in love with it. I surprised my family by doing it. I think my dad thought it was some whatever thing until i told him that i competed and won a gold medal. He was so surprised and proud. It was strange.
But i know my school is good and will be proud to earn my belt there. Since i have been going there, noone has gone for their black belt test. a lot of people either drop out at the red belt level. Noone has gone the whole way until now. There are 3-4 red belts up for testing. We will also be testing with some other black belt that are up for their next degrees.
So yes, in 3 weeks, I will be sore and in pain and hopefully a brand new black belt. Wish me luck. Both in training and the actual test. Did i mention 10 hours? ugh.
