As i have been cleaning out the apartment to move, you start to uncover many things. Like a box of tapes. Yep, the cassette. I don't even own a cassette player anymore. i got a walkman, but really. The Ipod has taken that over. Who the hell listens to it anymore. But i had a hard time departing with the tapes. Especially the mixed ones. I would spend hours upon hours making the PERFECT mixed tape. How each song would flow into the other. Have all my CD's spread out on the pool table, along with my vinyl. listening to it over and over making sure it was perfect.
I remember watching High Fidelity and thinking, oh my god, that guy would be perfect for me. His record collection, mix tape making skills...... and hell, it's John Cusack. But i really did love the part where he talked about making the perfect mix tape. I know the love of the perfect tape.
Each tape has memories attached to them. Driving around listening to them. Where you were, who you were with............
As i was uncovering some old tapes, not remembering them, i decided to listen to one at work and share. I had a thing for taping songs off the radio too. God, WFNX was so good then. Time line, about my sophomore year in high school, about 1990. Damn, that was 17 years ago..........Anywho, this isn't my best one, but this was it:
Side One:
New Order- Procession
New Order- (can't remember the song title)
Peter Murphy- Indigo Eyes
Charlatans UK- The Only One I Know
Happy Mondays- Hallelujah
Siouxsie and the Banshees- The Passenger
The Smiths- Some Girls are Bigger than Others
The Smiths- Please Please Please Let me Get What I want
Tribe- Pinwheels (this is a local Boston Band)
Side Two:
The Cure- A Forrest
The Cure- Play for Today
House of Love- Love in a Car
House of Love- Hannah
The Heart Throbs- Dreamtime
Suzanne Vega- Tom's Diner (with the beat)
Yaz- Don't Go
The Cure- Never Enough (this is when the song first came out and it's my first time listening but i don't like it)
Hummingbirds- Blush
Inxs- Suicide Blonde (this was their most recent one as well, so that will date this before he killed himself)

I think the new mix tape is a blog list of the songs in their particular, important order. I posted my Heroin Crisis 2007 mix tape on The Write Though. I bet we could come up with some interesting stuff over at CF, too...
